Bovine colostrum
Bovine colostrum contains proteins, immunoglobulins and other bioactive components. Human evidence focuses mainly on intestinal permeability and exercise settings, with large differences between products and protocols.
What it is
Colostrum is the first milk produced after birth. Bovine colostrum supplements are derived from cows and may be standardized by immunoglobulin G content. An IgG percentage describes composition; it does not prove a clinical outcome.
What human research suggests
A 2024 meta-analysis reported lower measures of intestinal permeability across randomized trials, but studies used different products, amounts, durations and populations. Several involved athletes exposed to intense exercise or heat. Those results cannot automatically predict digestive symptoms or everyday benefits in the general population.

Colostrum is milk-derived. Do not use it if you have a milk-protein allergy. Lactose content and tolerability vary by product. Mild gastrointestinal symptoms can occur. Evidence during pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited. People with complex medical conditions or who use immunosuppressive therapy should ask a healthcare professional before use.
